Christian Stuerwald, Head of Case Assessment

Christian is one of the most experienced professionals in the industry, and he has underwritten some of the largest and most complex cases ever funded by a commercial litigation funder.

He joined Calunius in 2010 and leads the assessment of incoming enquiries. He has worked almost the entirety of his career as a litigation funder.

Until the end of 2009 Christian was the Head of UK Litigation Funding at Allianz ProzessFinanz GmbH, the Litigation Funding subsidiary of the Allianz Group. Before his time at Allianz he worked for a German listed company which was one of the first litigation funding entities in what is still a relatively young industry.

Christian has 18 years' experience in Litigation Funding (which includes case assessment and monitoring) in various jurisdictions (such as England, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria as well as international arbitrations).

Christian is dual qualified as a solicitor in England & Wales and a lawyer (‘Rechtsanwalt’) in Germany and holds a Master of Laws degree from the University of Christchurch in New Zealand.
